How to Make Valentine’s Day Ice Cream Popsicles With a Preschooler

I was looking for something fun to make with Aiden for Valentine’s Day and came up with these ice cream popsicles.

We have always enjoyed cooking/baking with Aiden because it is a really fun way to work on important skills (measuring, fine motor skills, attention span, etc.) while having fun. It has the added bonus of a delicious reward at the end. We have been recently working on patience so making popsicles was a good way to teach this skill.

How to Make Valentine’s Day Ice Cream Popsicles With a Preschooler

Valentine's Day Ice Cream Popsicles

A strawberry and blueberry ice cream popsicle.

Prep Time 10 minutes

Total Time 3 hours 10 minutes

Servings 6 people

Ingredients

• 2 cups Strawberries
• 10 oz Whole Milk
• 2 oz Heavy Cream
• 2 oz Blueberries (optional)
• 2 tbsp Chopped Basil
• 2 tbsp Sugar (optional)

Instructions

1. Chop strawberries (half or quarter)

2. Add all ingredients to blender

3. Blend until smooth

4. Pour in popsicle a mold

5. Freeze until frozen (minimum 4 hours)

This Valentine’s Day ice cream popsicles recipe is super simple with only a few ingredients and even fewer steps.

Aiden was able to do a majority of the prep and cooking for these ice cream popsicles. We have a knife set for preschoolers that he used to help cut the strawberries and basil. With help, he measured the ingredients and added everything to the blender.

When the mixture was smooth he helped pour the liquid into the popsicle molds. We added more strawberries than blueberries to get a light pink color that is perfect for Valentine’s Day.

I love cooking activities because they demonstrate the concept of patience perfectly and that is a skill we are really working on with Aiden these days! He loved them, of course.
