How to Create a Welcoming Space for Baby in the Master Bedroom featured by top US mommy blog, Baby Castan on Board

Sometime around 20 weeks, and after we got through the holiday craziness, it really hit us that we would be adding another person to our small home. Moving is not an option at this point, so we realized we needed to get creative with space in our two bedroom townhouse. We decided that we would keep the baby in our master bedroom so it wouldn’t disturb our toddler’s sleep, but it took us some work to get our master bedroom “nursery ready”.

Here is how we created a welcoming space for baby in our master bedroom with some cleaning, a lot of organization, and Renuzit® Snuggle® Oil Refill 3pk Linen Escape.

As we get ready to welcome our second little one to our home, one of our big projects is to create a welcoming space for our baby (and me) to feel comfortable. We will be spending a lot of time in the bedroom so I wanted to create the perfect comfortable atmosphere for snuggles, naps, and feedings. I was really excited to learn about Renuzit® Snuggle® new Linen Escape Oil refills that are available at Walmart because the scent of Snuggle® has always been welcoming, inviting and comfortable to me. Plus, the Renuzit® Snuggle® oil jars are universal, so you can use them in your existing Glade and Air Wick warmer.

Once I got the perfect comforting scent figured out, our next task was to overhaul the bedroom. All of our furniture is 10 plus years old, big and bulky. We knew we had to get rid of most of it and get some smarter storage space to accommodate all of us in one room. Our first step was to go through everything we had in the drawers and closet so we could get rid of anything we didn’t use or need. I think we donated about 13 bags of things…it’s amazing how much you can accumulate over the years!

Next, we scheduled a pick up to help us remove the old furniture and other larger items that were broken or no longer worked. This opened up so much space. We reorganized the closet and purchased 2 small dressers to contain clothes that didn’t fit in the closet. Finally, we added a lamp, a comfortable chair, and baby bassinet. Since we plugged in our Renuzit® Snuggle® Oil Warmer at the beginning of the process, walking into the room when everything was complete was truly a relaxing breath of fresh air.

5 Top Tips to Create a Welcoming Space for Baby (and Mom) in the Master Bedroom:

1. Pick a Signature Scent

Scent can seriously affect your mood and emotions, so choosing a signature scent is an easy way to make sure every time you walk in your room with a new baby you feel calm and relaxed.

2. Go Through EVERYTHING

We were ruthless in our cleaning process and went through everything. We sorted things into three piles: donations, junk/trash, and storage.

3. Organize your Space

For everything we decided to keep we made sure it had a home. We purchased clear storage containers (so we could see what is inside), additional closet organization, and really took advantage of every place we could add storage (ie; over the door storage). Walmart was a great place to find all of these things! We picked them up along with the Renuzit® Snuggle® Oil Refill 5pk Linen Escape just to make sure we don’t run out anytime soon!

4. Think Minimal

Figure out the minimum amount of furniture you need and where it can go without taking up more space. We have a wall that is taken up by mostly large windows but is some space on both sides of the window. We decided to get a dresser that fits perfectly in that space. We added a small, but comfortable chair and a small bassinet.

5. Tackle one Project at a Time

Tackling one room at a time has made preparing the house for the baby much easier. I created a task checklist that I fill out for each room. Here is a free downloadable link to it for your own personal use!

Hi, I’m Melissa! I am a mama to an energetic toddler, a wife to my amazing husband Dan, and I work full-time as a meeting planner. I started this blog because, after having my little guy, I quickly learned that exhaustion and baby brain causes you to forget some of the amazing (sometimes horrible and sometimes wonderful) details related to the first several months of raising a baby. Considering we may have more kids in the future, I want to document everything we do, so we remember what worked the first time around, and hopefully help other first time mamas along the way!
