Cubbie Lee Toy Company — The Perfect Wooden Toys For Toddlers

I think technology is an incredible thing. However, there is something to be said for simple wooden toys for toddlers.  Not only are they nostalgic but they are also more durable than plastic toys.  Wooden toys allow the opportunity for toddlers to use their imagination and do their own creative play without being blinded by flashing lights or told what to do within specific parameters of a video game or app. I was excited to learn about Cubbie Lee Toy Company because wooden toys are what they do. They sent Aiden some toys to try and I want to share why they are the perfect wooden toys for toddlers.

Do you ever have those moments when you think back to your childhood and have great memories of some of your favorite toys? I do and for me, a lot of them were simple wooden toys. Cubbie Lee Toy Company is a small family-run company that specializes in wooden toys. Everything is painted to the highest quality and the wood is sustainably sourced and hardwearing. Most of the items are also available on Amazon which is great.

The first thing I saw when I checked out Cubbie Lee’s website was the Classic Wooden Building Block set and I got so excited because I remember having a similar set when I was young. There is a good chance you did too — heck, I even think these types of blocks were around when my parents were kids! Of course, Aiden couldn’t wait to open the box and get started. Blocks are his favorite thing right now and he doesn’t even realize the benefits he is getting from them. These building blocks help build motor skills and eye hand coordination. Plus, stacking is considered a major milestone measured by health professionals. There is also the opportunity to learn colors, shapes, and sharing.

After blocks, Aiden’s second favorite thing is transportation. He loves trains, cars, and trucks. Cubbie Lee has an adorable wooden train set, but Aiden already has lots of trains so we decided on the Classic  Wooden Truck with Animals and Detachable Trailer. This toy is so cute and Aiden loves putting the animals in and out of the truck bed. He is also learning how to reconnect the truck and truck bed when they separate. This is a great way to practice motor skills again! I know Aiden is also going to have a lot of fun using his imagination with this toy as he gets older.

Aiden has quite a few favorite things right now but the one constant is food. I think everyone knows how much Aiden loves food. He has recently been really interested in watching us (Dan) cook, so when I saw the Fruit Cutting Set I knew we had to have it. It comes with six wooden fruit pieces and a wooden knife. The fruits are split into two pieces and held together with velcro so when you run your knife between the two pieces they “cut” in half.  This is a great toy to grow with your toddler because at the recommended use age of two toddlers can work on getting the knife to split the fruits in two and by the age of three, there is an opportunity to start teaching concepts like kitchen safety and healthy eating — plus lots of opportunity for imaginative play.

The good news is that Cubbie Lee ensures that each toy meets or exceeds the ASTM F963 Toy Safety Standards (plus they use them with their own children) so there is no need for concern if your child bites on a piece of banana like Aiden did 😆 Plus there is a five-year warranty on all products which is always great for piece of mind.

The last item I was excited to get for Aiden is something totally new for him — a puzzle. We don’t really have anything like that for him (other than a shape sorting toy) so this Ocean Sea Animals Puzzle is a perfect addition to Aiden’s toybox. Wooden puzzles are a great way of teaching a range of cognitive, emotional and motor skills. Aiden already recognizes a lot of the marine animals so it’s fun interacting with him and asking him to pick up the different animals.

Luckily all these great products (minus the blocks) came in an affordable bundle, so if you are looking for a gift idea a bundle of wooden toys from Cubbie Lee would be great.

The funny thing is that since these wooden toys made it to our home and I took them out for Aiden to play with he hasn’t wanted to stop playing with them. He almost skipped dinner one night because I couldn’t get him to stop cutting fruit! I know that he is going to love these for a long time and I will be sending the website out to our friends and family for Christmas and birthday ideas because there are so many other amazing things!

One other thing I was excited to learn about was the Cubbie Lee VIP program.  The program offers:

  • Re-launch access to new toys before the general public
  • Exclusive deals and promotions upwards of 75% off!
  • The chance to receive toys for absolutely free to test out and review!

I am not part of the program — yet, so I can’t speak to how it works, but it sounds like a great way to get some amazing toys for the toddlers in your life.

About Melissa

Hi, I’m Melissa! I am a mama to an energetic preschooler and newborn, a wife to my amazing husband Dan, and I work full-time as a meeting planner. I started this blog because, after having my first little guy, I quickly learned that exhaustion and baby brain causes you to forget some of the amazing (sometimes horrible and sometimes wonderful) details related to the first several months of raising a baby. Realizing that we would probably have more kids in the future, I wanted to document everything, so we would remember what worked the first time around, and hopefully help other first time mamas along the way!
