One of the craziest things I have experienced through motherhood is baby brain. I started experiencing it during pregnancy and was warned that it doesn’t go away. Two years later, it is still going strong and I now refer to it as mom brain. It is definitely annoying but most of the time the mom brain moments are funny, especially looking back at them. I thought I would share some of my best mom brain moments of 2017 and I even got a few stories from some of my mama blogger friends.
Best Mom Brain Moments of 2017
Aiden goes to a home care three days a week so I can get work done at home. Dan drops him off and I pick him up. Usually, when I go to pick him up I am wearing leggings or something without pockets so when I get him out of the car when we come back home I put the keys in his diaper bag. Several times last year (way more than I would like to admit), the keys stayed in the diaper bag and went with Aiden to home care. Luckily my mother-in-law lives nearby and every time I did it she was able to rescue Aiden!
One really expensive mom brain moment I had happened while driving into the office. I have worked there for three years and one day I took the wrong exit. Unfortunately for me, it was an express lane toll road that I exited on to. Needless to say, I was late to work that day!
I think a lot of my mom brain moments are expensive. Probably my biggest mom brain moment and fail was the time I somehow forgot I needed my passport to go to London for a business trip…I realized the day of my trip that I had no clue where it was. I ended up visiting the passport office and they rush ordered a new passport. I got out just in time for my flight with a much smaller bank account!
Mom Brain Moments From Other Mamas
Right before the holidays, I was on a conference call with a few colleagues. I was intermittently working from home and hubby was off that day. So my brain wasn’t in the game. At the end of the call, I said “OK love you bye.” Oops.

I forgot my three-nado’s lunch one day for school. All the way to school I hyped up that he was getting breakfast for lunch that day since the closest fast food was Burger King and he loves their French Toast Sticks.

Always forgetting that my phone is tucked away in my shirt. Sometimes I forget if I’ve already given my kids lunch because they are always eating. I’m also always forgetting what day of the week it is.

After dropping off my kid at school I went to buy milk. Walked in and got a Starbucks latte and got the milk and left. Soon after I realized I forgot the milk at the check out (at least I had my latte!)
Four tips to make your Mom Brain a little better
Disclosure: I received a set of four Tiles in exchange for inclusion in this post. Affiliate links are included, which means if you make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. I only write about products I love.
Every year I always vow to cure my mom brain. I don’t think it’s going to happen but here are some tips to help with mom brain.
- Write everything down — I have to use a planner now, otherwise, I forget all my appointments/deadlines. Here is my favorite planner.
- Work out — Lots of studies have been done that show that regular exercise changes the brain and helps improve memory and thinking skills.
- Stress less — OK, clearly this can be difficult with kids and busy mom life but if you can do things to limit your stress you will improve your memory.
- Eat green leafy vegetables and drink plenty of water — You should do these anyway for overall health purposes, but if you are like me and hate eating anything green this is an added incentive.
Mom Brain Life Changer
Remember the very first mom brain story I mentioned about leaving my keys in the diaper bag? Well, that’s not the only time I have lost my keys and Dan is notorious for losing his around the house too. Yep, dads can suffer from dad brain too. Or, the lost passport incident? I was really excited to learn about Tile — which I think is going to be a life changer.
You can get tiles in a few different sizes and styles and they can be attached to anything. It sends a Bluetooth signal to an app that you have on your phone. If your lost item is within 100 feet of your Bluetooth device it will alert you to its location AND if you lose your phone (like I do all the time) if you hold down on the actual tile it will make your phone go off even if it is on silent! If you find that something is really lost you can use the Tile community to help you find it. You can get Tile on Amazon and the app is available for Android and iPhone.
The tile can be used for more than keys and phones. You can put one if your wallet or your child’s favorite toy or Wubbanub 😉 that is constantly getting lost.
Do you suffer from mom brain? I would love to hear about your mom brain moments!
