Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post. First Alert 10-year sealed battery alarms offer hassle-free protection that helps keep your home and family protected for a decade! #LiveWithA10
As a busy working mom of a toddler and a baby on the way safety is my number one priority. As I was creating a registry for baby number two one of the first items on the list was the First Alert 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm and 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alerts. This might not be something that a mom-to-be would think about when creating a registry so I thought I would share why these products should be on the top of your wish list and how it is a great way to get a new big brother or sister involved in preparing for a new sibling!

First Alert Smoke Alarms:
Let’s talk about safety first. The First Alert 10-year sealed battery alarms offer hassle-free protection that helps keep your home and family protected for a decade! They are perfect for busy families because you don’t have to worry about replacing the battery for the life of the alarm (10-years). This means no more annoying late-night chirping, no climbing up on ladders to change batteries, and of course, no worrying about remembering to change the batteries (or paying for batteries). There is an end-of-life warning that lets you know when it’s time to replace your smoke alarm.

Another reason to love the 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm is that it offers 2-in-1 protection against smoke and carbon monoxide. The 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alerts also has voice alerts so it lets you know the type and location of danger in your home.

Did you know that you should install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level and in every bedroom of your home? This was even more of an incentive for me to pick up a few extras. Our master bedroom didn’t have a smoke alarm and that is where our newborn will be sleeping until he can move into a room with my toddler. I feel much better about bringing a newborn home now that it is installed.

There was an added bonus to getting the First Alert 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm and 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alerts. This was the opportunity to have my little guy help install them to get him excited about his new sibling. We were also able to teach him some important safety tips.

We have been looking for as many ways to have him “help” prepare for his brother’s arrival so this was perfect. He is obsessed with firefighters so when we told him we were going to make our house safer for him and his new little brother in case of fire he ran to get his fire hat. We talked about where smoke alarms should go (and shouldn’t go — like in the kitchen) and why they are important. We also planned and practiced an escape route should the alarms ever go off.

Aiden loved “showing” dad where the smoke alarms should go and pressing the button to test them to make sure they work. We installed ours on the wall about 12 inches from the ceiling (it should be no further than 12 inches from the ceiling) and away from lights/light fixtures.

Overall these First Alert smoke alarms are a must-have for any family and it’s the perfect item for a baby registry if you are preparing to welcome a new baby.
