Busy Mom Hack: Using Exercise Dice For a Simple Workout

As a busy mom, usually, the first thing to get crossed off my schedule is my workout. It’s so easy to say I don’t have time or energy to get that workout in. Most of the time I don’t have time to get to an actual gym so this year I have made it a point to be more creative in my workouts. One of the easiest workouts I’ve incorporated into my routine is using exercise dice.

One thing that hinders my home workout is actually creating the workout and putting together a sequence. I love exercise dice because they take the thought out of working out. You set a time and roll the dice and do whatever it tells you. You can do it anywhere. The dice are easy to carry around so you can through them in your stroller or car and do them wherever there is some open space.

Plus, if your toddler is anything like mine he loves getting involved and throwing the dice. He will even do some of the exercises — he is definitely in the monkey see, monkey do phase.

On my exercise dice workout days, I usually drive to a lake near our house and run around the lake with Aiden in the stroller. Then I break out the dice and set a timer for 30 minutes. Once the workout is complete I do another run before walking over to the little playground near the lake for more toddler wear-out time!

One of the exercise dice includes time increments and the other has exercises.

Here is a recent workout I did with the exercise dice:

  • 90 seconds of walking lunges
  • 20 push ups
  • 30 squats
  • 60 seconds crunches
  • 30 seconds pushups
  • 10 crunches
  • 90 seconds jumping jacks
  • 10 squats

You can see some of the fun Aiden and I had with this workout.

Have you ever used exercise dice in your workout routine? I would love to know what you think of them!

Hi, I’m Melissa! I am a mama to an energetic toddler, a wife to my amazing husband Dan, and I work full-time as a meeting planner. I started this blog because, after having my little guy, I quickly learned that exhaustion and baby brain causes you to forget some of the amazing (sometimes horrible and sometimes wonderful) details related to the first several months of raising a baby. Considering we may have more kids in the future, I want to document everything we do, so we remember what worked the first time around, and hopefully help other first time mamas along the way!
