It’s the time of the year when it is sometimes just too hot to go outside (even with the sprinkler on). Aiden helped me create a Frozen sensory bin to remind us of the cool weather. It has been a huge hit with him (and his neighborhood friends). Scroll down for all the instructions!

How to create a Frozen Sensory Activity Bin:
This sensory activity was very easy to put together. We used the following materials for our Frozen sensory activity:
- White rice (4 cups)
- Food coloring
- Quart size plastic bags (3)
- White Vinegar (3 teaspoons)
- Plastic bin (if you plan to save and reuse the rice I recommend getting the bins with latch lids)
- Frozen II plastic figures — We got this Elsa set and this Anna set, but I just found this deluxe playset with most of the characters.

Once we had all the materials we set up the “snowy” scene. This is how we created the ice and snow:
- Aiden helped me dye the rice. We put 1 cup of rice in each of the three plastic bags.
- We added 1 teaspoon of vinegar to each bag.
- We added food coloring to the bags. You can add as many drops as you need to get the color you want. We did a light blue, darker blue, and red and blue to make purple.
- We put the dyed rice on a baking sheet and let it dry for several hours.
- Once dry we added all the colored rice to the plastic bin and added the 4th cup of white rice.
- The plastic figures came with paper snowflakes so we added those.

Once everything was done Aiden had a lot of fun playing with his creation. I love that he can help with the setup of this Frozen sensory activity and then is rewarded for his hard work and patience in the end.

We have also used the rice to create an ocean sensory bin by replacing the frozen toys with these ocean squirt toys. Airplanes would also work well.
Have you done sensory bins with your pre-schoolers. I would love to hear your variations in the comments.
