With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I wanted to reinforce the concept of thankfulness with our toddler. The best way, I’ve found to teach any concept is to do it through reading and games. There are some excellent Thanksgiving books out there so I thought I would round up the five best Thanksgiving books for toddlers that we are reading right now!

Our Top 5 Thanksgiving Books for Toddlers
Fangsgiving
OK, at first glance I have to admit I judged the book by the cover, but Aiden loves it! As I mentioned in my post about the best Halloween books, Aiden is obsessed with all monsters so he loved seeing all his favorite characters in Fangsgiving. It does have a cute story about a family that comes together to make a feast and there are a lot of monster-esque twists to the dishes they create. I love that it is a good transitional story from Halloween to Thanksgiving since there are only a few weeks in between it’s a book that can last longer during the Halloween and Thanksgiving holiday seasons.
Bear Says Thanks
Bear Says Thanks is part of The Bear Books series. It is about a bear who is lonely and decides to throw a feast for his friends. It’s a great story about friendship and sharing. I love the illustrations and the overall sweet message of this book.
Thanks From the Hungry Little Caterpillar
I am all for anything Eric Carle and this book all about thankfulness is perfect for the Thanksgiving season! It is a simple, colorful book all about saying thank you.
A Turkey for Thanksgiving
Eve Bunting is another one of my childhood favorite authors. A Turkey for Thanksgiving is about a moose family who invites friends and family over for Thanksgiving including a turkey. The turkey is scared that he will be on the table for Thanksgiving but finds out in the end that he is invited as a guest. It’s a cute, classic story. Aiden loves all the animal characters.
The 12 Days of Thanksgiving
The 12 Days of Thanksgiving is great because it is interactive (and comes with stickers — what toddler doesn’t love stickers!?) The story is a rhyme based on “The 12 Days of Christmas”. Aiden loves counting the various Thanksgiving objects on all of the pages. It’s a good book to reinforce counting!
Reading books based on the holidays is becoming a fun family tradition that we will be able to continue long in the future. We love teaching Aiden about the holidays while spending time as a family and building his library!
