It’s time for another Small Shop Spotlight. This month I am sharing another small shop that I love — Hip Mingo. I actually found Hip Mingo through an Instagram contest that I was lucky enough to win. As soon as I saw the shop on Etsy I fell in love with all the cool/edgy styles. I ended up ordering a beanie in addition to the harem pants that I won in the contest (Aiden’s very first pair of harems). Once I received the items I knew I had to have more! Make sure you read to the end for a promo code and a shop credit giveaway.
Here is his first Hip Mingo outfit!
Disclosure: Affiliate links are included in this post which means if you make a purchase I will make a small commission (at not cost to you) that goes into maintaining this blog.
Hip Mingo is for cool kids for sure. You will find harem pants and shorts, handmade tees, shorties, rompers, beanies, bell bottoms and crop tops (for the girls), and more. Sidenote: Let me just say it’s a good thing I don’t have a little girl because I am pretty sure Hip Mingo is all she would wear 😆 (and she would be the coolest). Sizes run from 0-3 months through 4T.
Just about all of Aiden’s shorties and harems are from Hip Mingo. He also has a romper, tee, and a couple of beanies (which are seriously the softest EVER). Everything is beautifully made and great quality. I know Aiden is comfortable because the fabrics are all really soft. I love all the fun patterns, colors, and prints that are available. Also, most things are gender neutral so boys or girls can wear a lot of the styles.
I find that Hip Mingo is very reasonably priced especially when compared to some other small shops and the quality you get. Also, although the processing time says one week I have always received my items sooner. She does have an add-on purchase to rush your order if you really need something sooner. She also offers free shipping on purchases of $50 or more.
Everything about Hip Mingo is just fun and unique. You can tell there is a lot of passion from shop owner Devynn. Part of the reason I write these each month is to share the hard working moms behind these amazing small shops so I asked Devynn some questions.
1. Tell me a little bit about your background.
I live in Michigan (have my whole life!) with my boyfriend, my 2-year-old daughter and our 2 dogs. I worked in childcare for years before venturing into the handmade business! In my spare time, I like to try new restaurants, go shopping and spend time with my family.
2. Why did you open Hip Mingo?
It was shortly after my daughter was born. I was bored of all the cookie cutter pink frilly baby girl clothes. I found some sewing patterns and attempted to sew her some pants (I was a beginner at that point!) My aunt (the other 1/2 of Hip Mingo) stepped in and started making her all kinds of cute clothes, she taught me to sew and shortly after that Hip Mingo was born 🙂
3. What is the meaning behind the name?
We literally could not come up with a name. Finally, we decided that we would each think of one word and put them together, after a few failed two-word combos we came up with Hip Mingo (Mingo is short for Flamingo ?)
4. What is your favorite part about owning Hip Mingo?
The freedom to be able to work from home and spend time with my daughter at the same time. I also love the small shop community – so many awesome small shop mamas out there! ❤️
5. Why should people shop small?
Shopping small gives you a more personal experience. You know where the product you are buying is coming from and a lot of the times you know who made it. It’s a great way to support the local economy!
You should definitely check Hip Mingo out if you have a little one. You can find Hip Mingo on Instagram and Facebook. You can also come hang out with me in the Hip Mingo VIP Facebook group if you like sneak peeks and sales 😉 !
