One of my favorite times of the day is bedtime (but maybe not for the reason you think)! Every night we read Aiden a story before bed. Early on we regularly read to him, but at around three months we incorporated it in to his bedtime routine. It is so relaxing to give Aiden his bath and then read him one of his favorite bedtime stories.

For the first 6 months, or so, Aiden had a very short attention span. We read books that were short, didn’t have a ton of words on the page and that were bright and colorful. Board books were especially helpful because he likes to grab the pages, but is not gentle, so paper pages don’t stand a chance!
Here are some of Aiden’s favorite bedtime stories:
Your Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada by Jimmy Fallon– Dada usually reads this one to Aiden. This was the very first book he read to Aiden, and we still read it today. It is basic and takes some imagination to actually make it a story, but it’s also very cute and Aiden loves the pictures of the animals.
Good Night Moon by Margaret Wise Brown– This is a classic. I remember reading this as a child, so of course, I had to get it for Aiden. The board book has a lot of sensory details such as black and white pages mixed with bright colors.
The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton– This is another classic. It is a quick easy read and Aiden loves the bright colors of this board book.
I love My Mommy Because…by Laurel Porter Gaylord — This is a really cute board book that incorporates reasons why a baby loves his mommy with animal characteristics.
I Love You Through and Through by Bernadette Rossetti Shustak and Caroline Jayne Church— This is one of my favorites to read. I love the story! It is short, easy to read, and is colorful so it captures Aiden’s attention.
The Little Boy Who Lost His Name by David Cadji-Neby and Pedro Serapicos — This is another one of my favorites. It is a personalized book where the little boy character (it would be a girl if you bought this for a daughter) goes on an adventure to find his name. He meets creatures along the way that give him letters which in the end spell out Aiden. It’s a longer book so we read it to him more now that he is a little older. We also read it if we are starting our nighttime routine a bit earlier or if he napped well during the day. Aiden loves this book because I read all the different characters in a different voice and he laughs and laughs.
